It is with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Dr. Patricia Mulready. Dr. Mulready was known to most of us as an energetic and accomplished trainer with a staggering wealth of knowledge. If your training portfolio includes courses through the DMHAS Education and Training Division, there’s a good chance that you spent a day (or more) with her. She was a champion of ongoing development, with a commitment to increasing the overall professionalism of our field. It was this issue that Dr. Mulready and I discussed at the New England Institute of Addiction Studies in June, and we had planned to meet to discuss some collaborative projects this fall. I was looking forward to collaborating with her. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.

With reference to professional development, please remember that completion of all requirements and submission of renewal forms in a timely manner is the responsibility of the certified professional. We do send reminders out via email, but they are only reminders and do not supercede the responsibility of the certified professional to manage their own credentials. Let’s not forget, as we expect those we serve to be aware of and manage their own responsibilities, it’s important that we serve as positive role models and do the same. Additionally, if any of your contact information has changed, whether it is your address, email or employment, please let us know at info@ctcertboard.org.

We are pleased to announce the release the CAC and CCS practice exams! Click the icon on our homepage at www.ctcertboard.org to get started!

As autumn comes, we have again scheduled full day certification overview courses, as well as a new offering, Preparing for the Certified Addiction Counselor Application and Examination Processes which I will be co-training with Mary-K O’Sullivan. This course will review the overall certification process in the morning, and cover the exam process in the afternoon, including test taking skills and practice exams. Registration information for these courses can be found in the DMHAS Education & Training Fall catalog, on the CCB website, or by clicking HERE. Certification process coaching sessions occur on a walk in basis every Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. unless specified on our website. As a reminder, coaching sessions are for professionals who have application materials for CCB staff review and not a general orientation to the overall process.

Finally, I’d like to let you know of two job opportunities that employers have asked me to pass on to you. Middlesex Memorial Hospital is looking for an LADC to provide group psychotherapy across the continuum of services in their mental health clinic. More information is available at this link. Additionally, Danya International, a contractor for the United States Navy, is looking for a part time Clinical Preceptor at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton. More information can be obtained from Sharon Foley, Director of Military Programs at sfoley@danya.com. Please be sure to let these employers know you heard about the positions on our site!

Enjoy the final days of summer! Looking forward to continuing to assist our Connecticut professionals!
