On behalf of the Directors and staff of the Connecticut Certification Board, I would like to thank all who supported and attended our inaugural Annual Awards Dinner, held at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell on May 14. The evening began with seared tuna on rice crackers and prosciutto wrapped melon hors d’ouevres, and allowed people a chance to network and catch up with other friends from the field. During a dinner in which attendees had the choice of brie stuffed chicken or parmesan risotto, keynote speaker Alison Knopf, Editor of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Weekly, spoke to the crowd about national trends in the field.
As participants enjoyed coffee or tea, awards were presented to deserving recipients: The CCB Young Professional Award to Alexandra Helfer, who at 29 years old serves as the Vice President of Program Development at Mountainside in Canaan and the Dr. David Powell Lifetime of Service Award to former DMHAS Commissioner Patricia Rehmer. Barbara and Heather Powell were in attendance to represent the family and show their support for the award which memorializes their late husband and father, and also for the need to recognize the young leaders who will take this field to new places as David did in his work. We are honored that they chose to attend. Additionally, long time director and ethics committee chair Mary K. O’Sullivan was honored as she ends her term on the Board. Her contributions over the years are immeasurable as well as greatly appreciated by all.
