CCB Announces Revisions to the Code of Ethical Conduct

Wallingford, CT The CCB Board of Directors recently voted to approve several revisions to the CCB Code of Ethical Conduct. All CCB credentialed professionals are subject to the CCB Code of Ethical Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure from the date of initial application for any CCB credential and as long as they are actively credentialed with the CCB. The Code of Ethical Conduct exists, in part, for the protection of consumers and to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the field. Periodically, the CCB Board of Directors and Ethics Committee review the Code and Disciplinary Procedures to ensure they reflect the best practice, current trends and highest ethical standards within behavioral healthcare.

Effective September 1, 2012, the revisions to the Code of Ethical Conduct and Code of Ethical Conduct Disciplinary Procedures will replace the previously published CCB code. All CCB credentialed professionals will be expected to familiarize themselves with and will be required to observe the new Code of Ethical Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures after September 1, 2012.

The changes to the CCB Code of Ethical Conduct include:

  1. 1)  Remove the term “substance abuse and other behavioral health” from Rule 1.1

  3. 3)  Remove the phrases “unrelated to the provision of services or of {the sale or acquisition of?}” and “,or any

psychoactive substance” and add the phrase outside of the service relationshipin Rule 4.3

  4. 4)  Remove the term “therapeutic” and replace it with the term “service” in Rule 4.5

The changes to the code are intended to ensure the language used in the code is inclusive of and applicable to all CCB certified professionals. All CCB credentialed professionals are expected to familiarize themselves with and required to observe the new Code of Ethical Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures after September 1, 2012.
