CCB to offer On Demand Computer Based Testing for all IC&RC Exams

Wallingford, CT The CCB will begin offering on demand computer based testing (CBT) for all IC&RC exams beginning in March 2011. The new testing program will not only expedite the certification process for candidates, but will offer several advantages over the existing testing procedures. The new testing program will allow authorized candidates to select a testing session based upon their own scheduling preferences and will offer candidates greater convenience and the flexibility of choosing from several authorized testing locations.

At the fall meeting of the IC&RC (International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium), delegates voted to offer testing on demand for all IC&RC exams beginning in January 2011. Previously, IC&RC testing was offered in Connecticut just four times per year. Under the new program testing, exams would be continually offered using CBT at authorized testing sites throughout the year and the use of paper and pencil testing format will be eliminated.

Several changes are going to be made to the CCB testing program to better serve candidates and will offer several benefits including:

Flexible Testing Schedule: Once a candidate is authorized to test, they will be able to schedule a testing session that works with their schedule. Most testing centers are typically open regular business hours while some even offer evening and weekend hours.

Multiple Testing Locations: Candidates will be able to select their preferred testing location from a list of authorized testing sites in Connecticut and beyond. For a list of authorized testing sites visit

Preliminary Test Results: At the conclusion of the testing session, a preliminary score report is typically issued to the testing candidate (although this report is not guaranteed) with a score of pass or fail. Once the test results are analyzed by the testing company, the final test report is issued within a few weeks of the testing session.

Expedited Certification Process: Likely the biggest advantage of the new program is that it will significantly expedite the timeline of the certification process since candidates will no longer be required to wait for a testing session offered only four times per year.

In order to test, candidates must meet eligibility criteria and be pre-authorized by the CCB. Passing a certification exam is only one of the requirements of certification. In order to become certified, candidates must meet all current standards. The March 2011 testing session will be the final session that will utilize a paper and pencil testing format.
