The recent move to new office space has offered us the opportunity to once again honor someone whose contributions are an important part of the CCB history. Luis Marcano, a former Board member who many of our certified professionals knew, provided not only service to the Board and to the professionals he came in contact with, but also worked hard to increase the professionalism of our field. After his passing, the training space in the old CCB offices was named in his honor. The CCB e-Learning Center, our computer based testing site, has been re-named the Luis Marcano Learning Center. Luis is memorialized on a plaque for all to see as they enter the testing site. We are proud to be able to continue to honor him in this way.
Four dates for the Certification Process Overview are scheduled for Fall 2013. They will be listed on our website as well as in the DMHAS Fall Training catalog on the CCB page (pg. 13). I will also be co-training a course, Preparing for the Certified Addiction Counselor CAC Application and Written Examination Processes, with Mary-K.O’Sullivan. This course will be offered four times in the fall and will discuss the process of certification in the morning session, followed by an exam preparatory session in the afternoon (including practice exams). Registration is ONLY through the CCB and NOT the DMHAS LMS system. Both trainings will meet the identified 6 hour overview requirement for the CIT. Please contact the CCB office to determine which of these would best suit where you are in the process.
The CCB and IC&RC, in support of Ted Judson, Administrator of the U.S. Navy Certification Board in San Diego, are offering the opportunity for any professional working in our field, whether currently credentialed or planning to be, to participate in a survey that will be used as part of a larger research project to help fulfill his candidacy for a doctoral degree at Argosy University. There is an icon posted on our website with the link that will provide you complete information about the survey should you wish to participate, or you can simply click HERE for more information.
Summertime also means that it is time for outdoor charitable functions and fund raisers that help agencies and organizations that support recovery. If you are a golfer and live or work in the southwestern Connecticut or Naugatuck Valley areas, the Recovery Network of Programs Annual Charity Golf Tournament is happening on Monday, August 19th at The Golf Club at Oxford Greens. Information on this event is available at http://recovery-programs.org/. For residents of western Connecticut or neighboring New York, the Midwestern Connecticut Council of Alcoholism is sponsoring the John Allen Memorial Tournament at the Salem Golf Club in North Salem, NY. This event is scheduled for August 12th, and more information can be found at http://mccaonline.com/. Finally, on Friday, September 27th, Recovery Walks! sponsored by the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery will take place at Bushnell Park in Hartford. Details can be found at http://ccar.us/. We encourage you to participate in one, two or all of these events!
If you have community, recovery-oriented events that you would like us to promote, please send your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Unfortunately, we cannot honor all requests, but will post ones determined to meet our criteria. We look forward to hearing from you!
