New Performance Domains for Certified Addiction Counselor credentialing

Effective September 2010, the CCB will no longer be referring directly to the 12 Core Functions. Instead, the 8 Performance Domains of addiction professionals identified in the IC&RC JTA and Candidate Guide (see the IC&RC website for more information at www.icrcaoda.org) for addiction professionals (ADC Alcohol and Drug Counselor) will be used to identify the competency domains of addiction professional. The 8 domains will be integrated into the CCB CAC Certified Addiction Counselor application process and will be used to track counselor supervised practicum training. The 8 Performance Domains are based upon a national consensus document titled TAP 21 - Addiction Counseling Competencies: The Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes of Professional Practice (SAMHSA, 2006) and are being used by multiple addiction credentialing bodies including the IC&RC.

As the table illustrates below, the 12 Core Functions are compatible with and can be found within the 8 Performance Domains. The table below should not be interpreted to indicate that this is the only combination of domains between the 12 Core Functions and 8 Performance Domains as some can be applied to multiple domains.
