The Connecticut Certification Board was a proud corporate supporter of the Unite to Face Addiction Rally, held on October 4 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Thousands of supporters gathered to bring national attention to the issue of addiction that affects 1 out of every 3 American families. Supporters were joined by many dignitaries including Michael Botticelli, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, and music industry stars including Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow, The Fray and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. The event received national exposure through publications and news outlets like the Huffington Post. The efforts of those at Facing Addiction, namely Connecticut’s own Greg Williams and Pat Taylor, are applauded by the CCB, not simply for this event, but for their awareness that it served simply as a launching point for changing the national discussion on addiction. The efforts must go on, and we, are industry professionals and recovery advocates, must share in the responsibility of keeping the discussion going.
The discussion of addiction that is happening on Capitol Hill is unprecedented in the history of this country. Several pieces of legislation are being written, are in committee or even on the floor of both the House and Senate. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with what is happening, and let’s work to get these same issues discussed on the statewide level.
