In addition to certification, we provide a number of workforce development services for individuals and organizations. Whether it is SUD/COD specific training, QPR for suicide prevention or organizational development and effectiveness consulting, the CCB is ready, able and uniquely qualified to help. There is one main theme underlying all that we do – protection of those persons served by professionals in the field.
Established in 1980, the CCB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is “cultivating and maintaining the highest standards of professional practice in the recovery field.” Our staff is experienced, knowledgeable, and committed to the responsibilities of our charge. We are led by a diverse board of leaders from the field that represent some of the foremost organizations in our state.
Meriden, CT – As June comes to a close and we enter the heart of the summer season, change is coming to the CCB leadership tree. We meet this change, like so many, with both sadness and hopefulness, with pride in what has been done and hope for what we can accomplish in the future.
Amy Sedgwick, who has served as the President of the Board for the maximum allowed 4 consecutive years, and Jennifer Kolakowski serving as Secretary of the Board for the same time period, will be moving into different roles. Amy will move into the Immediate Past President role for one year, serving as an advisor for our incoming president, and Jennifer will transition into a member-at-large position. These two leaders have been a part of our struggles and successes, with the simple goal of pushing the agency forward and drive our mission. We will miss them in the leadership roles that they held.
Our hopefulness for the future grows because of the tremendous professionals tasked with offering new leadership to the CCB. We are incredibly excited to have both a new president and new secretary take office effective July 1. Ebony Wilson, Director at Midwestern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism will put her experience and natural leadership skills to use as our new President, and Nicole Hampton, longtime recovery advocate and Community Liaison at High Focus Treatment Centers, is our new Secretary of the Board. Given the drive and commitment of these two women, the CCB remains in good hands. As the CEO, I look forward to hearing their vision for the future of the organization and putting that vision into action.

Certification and Licensure: Clarifying the Confusion
It is not uncommon for professionals to confuse the processes of specialty board certification and state licensure when it comes to SUD professional credentialing. The reason is simple, it can be confusing. As we receive a lot of requests for information on both, it is important to clarify the differences.
In 2020, the CCB created a podcast entitled Scope of Practice to give voice to issues that are relevant to the behavioral health workforce, most notable the SUD/COD industry. Our hope is to expose professionals to different ideas and elicit conversation.
